I'll say it again. The reason the new trilogy will never stack up against the old is because the inter-relationships simply aren't there. Think about each of the relationships and how closely they connected with each other: Obi-Wan and Luke, Han and Chewy, Luke and Leia, Darth and Leia, Darth and Luke, Han and Leia, Yoda and Luke, C3PO and R2, Luke and R2, Jawa and Uncle Owen, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader.
In the new we have... what? Anakin and Amidala, Anakin and Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, Anakin and Shmi? Darth Maul... Jar Jar... Mace Windu... where's all the real and viable connnections? A connection you can relate to and feel? I consider these weak relationships, although the implication is that they shouldn't be.
I am watching Star Wars on TBS and am again reminded why the original is great and why the new... while the new are technical masterpieces... fall flat on character inter-relatedness.
